This can be dangerous for the dog as those slivers can enter the jaw, cause infection and do real damage. Suggest you get some Bitter Apple at the Pet Supply store and spray the legs. If your dogs love Bitter Apple, as mine do, you can make a solution of 2 oz Alum powder to 6-8 oz of water to spray on the leg and other furniture the dog is attracted to.
