Hip xrays
Apr 19 2007, 12:43 PM EDT My vet said we should have our 7 1/2 mnth old hips xrayd before we breed him. Is this really necessary? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Hip xrays
Apr 20 2007, 8:06 PM EDT From what I understand this is a good idea to do before you breed your dog. Hip dysplasia is a typical problem with many breeds, Golden Retrievers being one. I think if X-rayed before a year old, the dogs aren't fully mature yet, and although it's possible to determine if there is a problem at this age, a screening later on, like at 2 years old, would be even better. All in all, I think your vet is giving you good advice. When I was looking for the right puppy, I was very concerned about potential health issues and any evidence of health screening would've been a big plus for me. 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
