Large Pom
Apr 28 2007, 11:22 AM EDT
My dog is about to be two years old and is a little large at 13 lbs. but she isn't overweight. This is not a lap dog but she is a wonderful, friendly dog. Is this an unusualy large dog for the breed? 3  out of 7 found this valuable. Do you?

My pom is only 1 year old and is already 13lbs. I was starting to wonder if the breeder lied and maybe he wasn't 100% pom, although we were told he was the largest of the litter. They even called him moose. He's not overweight according to the vet. He is a momma's boy that's for sure, got to be where mom is at at all times. Took him to the vet today and he is such a baby they didn't even do anything to him and he acted like they were killing him, I felt so bad. Any advice for getting him more use to handling and strangers?? At home he loves everyone including the cat but strangers and strange dogs not so much. Do you find this valuable?

I have three poms all bought from pet stores in New York. My 6 yr old is 28 lbs and all black, my 2 1/2 yr old is 17 lbs and all black, both are males and our 14 month old Miss Queenie is a wolf sable, who is 8 lbs. So there are three different sizes. If you look up information on poms they actually started out as 30-40 lbs spitz dogs and were bred down to lap size dogs by Queens in England. They have an interesting history. I must say I love my poms. They are the best. The Pom Mom in New York. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I am not sure what the standard is for their sizes, but they definately do exist in lap-dog sizes. Mine is smaller than my cat! Think of a chihuaha with lots of thick, fluffy hair. Do you find this valuable?
