Are Designer Dog Trends bad for dogs?
Jun 14 2007, 1:46 PM EDT
I say no, through history people have bread different dogs breeds together to acquire characteristics that they desire. Now all of a sudden this is wrong? Its these radical Dog Rescue organizations that have the problem, they will stop at nothing to stop people from mixing different breeds. Ive personally read posts on sites like Petfinder.com (run by "Animal Planet") where Dog Rescue Groups often threaten or wish harm to what they call BYB (Back Yard Breeders) of these hybrid or Designer Breeds, Many also despise breeding of pure bread dogs. In there opinion these BYB don't deserve to even live, they look upon them as criminals, this kind of thinking is just outrageous. There is nothing illegal about breeding "Designer Dogs" although Dog Rescue groups such as Good Dog Rescue based in Arlington Virginia say that these hybrids will inherit all the bad characteristics of both breeds which is not the case, mix breeds are almost always healthier and have fewer genetic defects due to a larger genetic pool than pure breeds.
