Jul 2 2007, 4:16 AM EDT My opinion on the designer dog dilema is easy to figure out if you visit my site. Designer dogs are mixed breed dogs purchased at sometimes unbelievable prices. You CAN NOT tell what puppies from parents of different breeds will look like or act like. Also the dogs used for producing these mixed breeds are many times passing on problems in health and temperament. A responsible breeder will NOT sell purebred puppies for this type of breeding. Therefore people trying to profit from breeding designer dogs use dogs that would otherwise NOT be used in breeding programs as they many times have the very health issues people claim to avoid by buying mixed breeds. THIS is a marketing strategy. When you breed a purebred with skeletal problems to another pure breed with very bad luxated patellas (slipping knee caps) then you end up with a hybrid with all of those problems or one that will pass them on. The entire hybrid dog breeding fad is another way for backyard breeders to make money with little commitment to the long term health and welfare of the dogs they sell. They claim to be making "new" breeds..... Twenty years from now.. they will be into some other fad to make easy money. And YES dog pounds are full of designer mixes also. Don't pay a huge amount of money for a mixed breed dog. Rescue one instead! 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Apr 17 2008, 12:33 PM EDT Kudos to all of you guys, designer dogs are disgusting and sick - it is ONLY bout the owner. Dogs arent clothes, theyre animals that deserve respect and love. People need to grow up. Do you find this valuable? |
