Why?
Jul 12 2007, 3:43 PM EDT
My partner and I recently adopted two treeing walker coonhound pups from the OSPCA, here in Canada. They were six weeks when we adopted them, and that was a little over two weeks ago. So, now they are eight weeks. They are the most beautiful, loving, funny, intelligent and currious puppies I have ever known. I am so in love with them! I have been looking up soooo much information, trying to learn as much as I can. Through my searching, I have found some valuable possitive info, and advice, but I have seen more negative than possitive when it comes to having them as non hunting-family companions. I don't really understand this, only because I believe that if you have them from such an early age and you offer them tons of love, exercise, fun, and purpose(I am thinking about having them trained as therapy dogs, eventually) Also, I read from a few sources on the net, never to get two puppies at the same time. I read that they will bond with each other instead of me, and that they will most likely turn vicious towards one another. When they are used as hunting dogs, I haven't heard of the dogs turning vicious towards one another-on the contrary. I would love to hear what anyone has to say.

RE: Why?

I have many hounds,3 walkers, mother, daughter, 2 sons, actually 4. They all get along. They are all spayed and nuetered. Mom is the dominate one and I am the boss. We live in the country and they do not hunt. Mom is retired coonhunter. I don't let the younger ones hunt because the father ran himself to death in the woods. He got out of the gate. he was 11 yrs old. the mom was depressed so I let them all be together. Yes they do get into disagreements, but not blood battles. They all come running to me like little kids when I get home. They all cry when I leave. We have a strong bond together, and they all have their own personality. Hope this helps you.
